As you grow older, it becomes clear that weightloss without exercise is not healthy or effective for the long run. Almost 60% of Americans are overweight or obese and there's no sign the trend will be reversing anytime son. Body fat accumulation has become a serious health issue making weight loss an important goal for many people.
Bigger Every Year?
Naturally, most people wish there was a way to lose weight easily and quickly. But the best way to burn body fat has always been a combination of diet and exercise. Weightloss without exercise is ineffective. How you combine the two factors affects the speed of body fat loss, but the ultimate goal is progressive weight reduction.
Of course, the simplest step for losing weight and reducing body fat is to reduce the number of calories you eat. You can also improve the kind of calories you eat on a regular basis.
In other words, you can lose weight by eating a diet that consists of the right mix of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. But the kind of fat you should consume is the kind that won't clog your arteries. The carbohydrates should not come from eating pasta and white bread, but form whole grains.
But reducing body fat includes more than just diet. You have to exercise also, because weightloss without exercise is not long lasting.
The body requires oxygen to metabolize nutrients obtained through food. Exercise increases the metabolic rate by using energy stored in fat cells and muscles. Exercising accomplishes two things related to losing weight.
First, you lose body fat through exercise, decreasing the body mass index. Second, you prevent fat from accumulating in the first place thus controlling your weight.
Preventing Weight Gain
It's always easier to put weight on then it is to lose it. Therefore, the goal of a weight loss program is to reduce weight and keep it off from that point forward. Exercise, along with a healthy dietary plan, is the best way to lose weight.
Weightloss without exercise is not smart planning. Exercise programs should include the following:
Strength training builds muscle, and when you build muscle, the basal metabolic rate is increased. That is the resting rate at which you burn calories. You burn more calories when you raise the rate which increases weight loss or makes it easier to maintain weight at current levels.
Aerobics should increase the heart rate to between 60% and 70% of the target heart rate. You can quickly figure your maximum target heart by subtracting your age from 220. Aerobics requires a lot of energy to maintain the body's activity. That means more calories are being burned once again.
A Time to Rest
Weight loss without exercise simply does not make any sense. If you don't burn an adequate number of calories through exercise, you will put on weight as you age without ever eating more calories. That's because your metabolism slows down through the natural aging process.
So if you want to maintain your normal weight through the years, you must have a balance of diet and exercise. The best way to burn fat is to eat healthy foods and do both aerobic and resistance training exercises.
